Daruma
by Myodo (1767-1857)
(Zen) points directly to the human heart; See your nature become Buddha.
Respectfully brushed by Myodo, former abbot of Daitoku-ji

The inscription is the battle cry of Zen, the most common verse used on portraits of Daruma. This is a very nicely brushed painting by one of the famed Daitoku-ji abbots. Daitoku-ji in Kyoto is one of the main centers of traditional Japanese cutlure, and this scroll reflects the essence of Zen esthetic values.
