Even if they have no formal meditation training, superior martial artists naturally become adepts of Zen--they need to acquire the same level of intense concentration manifested by Zen masters. Most budo masters brushed calligraphy for their disciples, supporters, and friends and viewed such brushwork as an extension of their martial arts training. This section contains pieces by such masters as Yamaoka Tesshu and Nakayama Hakudo, as well as pieces by Zen masters with a budo theme.
