Like the samurai of old, Sumo champions are expected to be able to produce good calligraphy and compose poetry. This is a fine example of sumo brushwork by one of the great modern champions.
About the Artist
Chiyonofuji was born in Hokkaido in 1955. Chiyonofuji, 58th Yokozuna (Grand Champion) of Sumo, won thirty-one tournaments (number two on the all-time list), and once had a fifty-three match winning streak.
