Daruma
by Goyo Gukei (1859-1944)
No dependence on words or letters, grasp Zen directly in your hands; Direct pointing to the human heart, make realization your own! Brushed by the old fellow Gukei.

This a excellent example of a Daruma painted by Gukei. Gukei's Darumas are highly expressive, brushed in a pleasing , free-flowing style. In his Zenga, Gukei portrays the dynamic power of Zen very well. His Darumas are always a joy to contemplate.
