*Daibi's Zen master name

A common Zen phrase symbolizing repose within the beauty of Buddha-nature. This was brushed on silk, and the brushstrokes are rich and bright. Daibi was the Dharma-heir of Shaku Soen. He served as abbot of Kokutai-ji, hea temple of one of branches of Rinzai Zen. Daibi was a good friend of D.T. Suzuki.
About the Artist
Shaku Daibi became a Zen monk at age thirteen and trained under Shaku Soen, the famous abbot of Engakuji in Kamakura, who introduced Rinzai Zen at the 1893 Parliament of Religions in Chicago. Daibi was one of the Soen's Dharma-heirs and eventually became abbot of Kokutai-ji in Toyama Prefecture. Daibi was a colleague of D. T. Suzuki and like Suzuki, he authored many books on Zen. Calligraphic works by Daibi are rare, however.
