Fresh Breeze

Hakuin-style Daruma
Zen awakening can indeed be like a current of fresh air, blowing away the mist of delusion.

About the Artist

Tanaka Akira was an art dealer who specialized in the works of Hakuin. The family art business was first established in Numazu near Hakuin's temple Shoinji, and the family had the largest collection of Hakuin pieces in Japan. Mr. Tanaka was a keen scholar of Zen art, a disciple of the famous Ryutaku-ji Zen Master Yamamoto Gempo, and an excellent calligrapher who enjoyed presenting Hakuin-style Daruma paintings to his customers and friends.
