WAY
by Kasumi Bunsho (1905-1998)
DO (WAY) (signed) Kaisei Dainanju* Eighty-three (years old).
* One of Kasumi's pen names.

We all have a way to follow and a way, a spiritual path, to guide us. The character DO is one of the most commonly used in Zen calligraphy, and here it is coupled with an enso, emphasizing the ceaseless flow of the Way.
About the Artist
As a young monk, Kasumi Bunsho studied under the famous master Nantembo, and that master's influence is reflected in Bunsho's rough-hewn brushstrokes. Bunsho was the Dharma-heir of Deiryu, another outstanding Zen artist. Bunsho became abbot of Myoshin-ji in 1990, and produced many pieces of Zen art in his final years.
